The mystery surrounding the identity of the lady who drowned alongside a man after the car they were in plunged at Juja’s Titanic dam in Kiambu on January 17, 2023, has been unravelled.

After days of her body lying at the city mortuary unclaimed, a family from Mathioya in Murang’a County on Thursday identified the body as that of their daughter Fridah Warau Kamuyu.

Police sources who spoke to Citizen Digital revealed that an autopsy showed that she died of drowning and had bruises on her left arm.

The man with whom she drowned together was identified as Titus Kiiru Gikonyo, a businessman who friends described as one who loved to help the less fortunate in society.

On the fateful day, the man driving a Nissan X-trail vehicle reportedly turned the engine on and reversed the vehicle. The vehicle would later plunge into the dam, drowning as the two sank into the water.

Witnesses, who had since filed reports with the police, said on the incident day, they saw Gikonyo’s car reversing towards the dam.

“He reversed but stopped on the first instance. We hooted and warned him that he’d plunge into the dam. He, nonetheless, reversed for a second time and stopped on the edge of the dam.

Our incessant hooting to persuade him against reversing fell on deaf ears when he reversed for the third time and sunk in the dam,”

said one of the eyewitnesses in his report filed at Juja Police Station.

The lady’s body was retrieved the same night but had no identification documents.
Before the identification of the deceased woman, the man’s wife, Margaret Kiiru, had appealed to public members to help her trace the family of the lady who died alongside her husband to have closure.

“We have not been able to identify the family of the young lady who drowned together with my husband in Juja on Tuesday because when she was retrieved from the dam, she had no identification documents.

I have no problem getting to know who her family is or who can help us get to know them so that they can also have closure,”

Ms Kiiru told the Daily Nation.
