Macharia Gaitho, a veteran journalist of Nation Media Group, was taken at Karen Police Station while with his son.
Gaitho was going about his business with his son when he observed a car pursuing them.
The two then went to Karen Police Station, where the son is reported to have captured footage of plain-clothed people abducting the seasoned editor and loading him into a waiting car.
According to a video circulating among the media, uniformed police officials oversaw the entire operation.
According to additional accounts, the seasoned editor was driven to an undisclosed location following the kidnapping before being driven back to Karen Police Station and released.
Gaitho’s daughter, Anita, confirmed that the police returned her father, adding that the family recorded an abduction report at the station.
“I’m with my dad Macharia Gaitho. He’s just been brought to Karen police station by the car that abducted him. He’s safe although they roughed him up a bit. We’re making the abduction report right now,” Anita shared.
The abduction came as journalists called upon the police to stop harassing reporters, especially those covering the ongoing protests.
