Oscar Sudi Released On Ksh500,000 Bail

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi was on Friday, September 18, released on a Ksh500,000 cash bail by the High Court in Nakuru.

Judge Joel Ngugi ruled that reasons issued by the prosecution to hold him for 7 more days did not meet the prosecutorial threshold.

Ngugi, however, barred the MP from making utterances deemed inciteful by the prosecution as well as addressing public rallies.

He stated that the MP had a right to be freed on bail or bond until he is formally charged.

The judge added that Sudi should not have been arrested and wondered why the police apprehended him without a provisional view of the crime.

On Wednesday, September 16, Magistrate Josephat Kalo ruled that Sudi would remain in custody for 7 days as police complete investigations following remarks he made that were allegedly considered as hate speech.

Other charges Sudi is facing include; offensive conduct, resisting arrest, being in unlawful possession of a firearm, and assault of a police officer.

Sudi came under condemnation for utterances he made against the first family, specifically Mama Ngina Kenyatta.

He was defending his counterpart Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng’eno, who had made similar utterances against the first lady.

His remarks landed him in trouble with a contingent of police officers sent to his house on Friday night, September 11, to arrest him. At the time, Sudi claimed that he was not on the premises.

“It was unnecessary to be treated with a lot of drama by sending a contingent of police officers to my home. I was away the time police arrived at my place. Thank you all for standing with me,” he stated.
