Olunga hints at possible move to English Premier League

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga yesterday remained coy over several reports linking him to a move to the English Premier League but said he would clear the air over the matter soon, raising speculations of a possible move for the Al Duhail goal-poacher.

English Premier League side Everton has reportedly been monitoring the situation for the Kenyan goal machine, according to Echo publication in Liverpool.

Olunga, 29, trained yesterday with Harambee Stars,as the team prepares for a four-nations tournament in Mauritius from next week. When asked about the multi transfer gossips,Olunga was coy to talk about it and loughed jokingly.

“About the rumours,we can talk about it  after training,” Olunga noted.

Immediately after the training,he said he would be open to speak to the press today during the team’s open media session at the Mpesa Foundation although noting; “It is good to be curious,”

Turkey Premier League giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, Corinthians of Brazil and Eredivisie club Utrecht are all some of the teams that have since been reported to be monitoring the Kenyan skipper for a possible move.

Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat commented on the paper talks involving one of his dependable player.

“Michael is a very good player and a diligent leader and therefore it is quite normal for hime to get these offers.At this point you have to talk to him,I don’t know exactly what he is planning for his future.It is not really my job and he knows what is best for himself and his family.I have already advised him but it is not for the media,” said coach Firat before the team’s training session on Thursday morning at Nyayo Stadium,Nairobi.

On Wednesday evening, the Liverpool Echo reported that top honchos at Finch Farm, Everton’s training ground were already mentioning Olunga’s name as the seek to rebuild the team the survived relegation on the final day on the league last month.

Caped 49 times for Kenya with 22 goals,the former Gor Mahia goal machine had a steller season with Al Duhail, emerging as the top scorer after netting 22 goals,aiding his club to bag the Qatar league title.

Should the Goodison Park move go through, Olunga will become the only second Kenyan to play in the English Premier League after Victor Wanyama who featured for Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
