No Child Should Be Sent Home For School Fees- Magoha

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has cautioned headteachers against sending learners home for fees.

“No child should be sent home because of school fees. I would like to firmly plead with our teachers and tell them that they have no permission to do so,” the CS said.

He spoke in Kisumu when he inspected the delivery of desks to schools in the county.

Magoha said the government would ensure that students recover the lost time occasioned by Covid-19.

He said the government had already released capitation funds to facilitate the running of the institutions and ensure students are retained to continue learning uninterrupted.

The CS reiterated that the ministry will ensure that the desks are delivered promptly before the full reopening of schools in January next year.

Magoha took issue with critics of the new school calendar, saying the process was arrived at after thorough consultation with stakeholders.

“The decision to come up with the revised school calendar was unanimously agreed on after thorough education stakeholders’ consultation,” he said.

The timetable will save the year which could otherwise have been lost.

“Everybody should accept the time table and support it for the good of our children,” he said.
