Moi’s grandson charged with stealing his daughter’s phone

Former President Daniel arap Moi’s grandson, Collins Toroitich Moi, has been charged in a Nakuru court with stealing two mobile phones belonging to his daughter and her friend. The two mobile phones worth Sh19,000.

Mr Moi appeared before chief magistrate David Kemei and denied the charge that he stole the two phones belonging to his daughter May Chelimo and her friend Betty Chebet on July 14 this year.

His lawyer, Ochang’ Ajigo, told the court that his client took the phones from the two girls in order to get them to concentrate on crucial discussions they were holding but later gave them back.

Mr Moi maintained that he was only acting as a father and that the two girls might have left their phones in a taxi they used when returning home. Ochang’ said the three were eating in a joyful mood when Toroitich took his daughter’s phone away so they could interact smoothly.

“After the meeting, none of them remembered their phones until after they alighted from a taxi. They left the phone in the taxi,” he said.

He was released on a Sh20,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount. The case will be mentioned on August 15.
