A woman yesterday shocked a Nairobi court when she narrated how she had killed her nine-month-old son.

Margaret Nduta admitted that she had killed her son Said Hassan Juma Karanja. She later cremated her at Uhuru Park because she could not afford to give him a proper burial.

She told the court that she had cremated the child using old clothes.

According to the police records, Ms. Nduta had opted to take the life of her son because he had been sick for a long time.

“Police found Ms Nduta sitting next to the burning body of the boy at Uhuru Park in Nairobi on June 27, 2016,” a prosecutor told the court.

When the police approached her, she did not flee. “She sat watching the body of her son burn,” the investigating officer states in a statement to court.

Ms. Nduta, who alleged that she has five other children told the court that she has eight siblings but doesn’t know where they live. Magistrate Francis Andayi directed that she be taken for a mental examination.
