AFC Leopards tactician Patrick Aussems has expressed his thoughts on the team’s impressive 2-1 victory over long-time rivals Gor Mahia.
The win comes after a seven-year jinx that had plagued AFC Leopards in their encounters with Gor Mahia.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Aussems credited the triumph to the pressure that weighed heavily on Gor Mahia players.
He believed that the title race pressure got into their heads and ultimately played a part in AFC Leopards’ success.
Before the highly anticipated match, Aussems had reminded his players that the pressure was on Gor Mahia. This proved to be true when Gor Mahia missed a penalty, highlighting the mounting pressure on the team.
“Before the game, I told my players that the pressure was on Gor Mahia, and the penalty miss proved that the pressure was on them, and we played in a relaxed way and got the three points,” the Belgian said in his post-match interview.
Aussems also praised his team’s performance in capitalizing on set-pieces, which had been a rare occurrence for them this season.
The first goal came from a penalty, while the second was a well-executed header from a corner kick delivery by Maxwel Otieno.
While acknowledging the significance of ending the seven-year winless streak against Gor Mahia, Aussems quickly shifted his focus to the upcoming match against the Homeboyz.
