Kenya Police set to launch Women’s team

As the sun rises over the horizon,  Kenya Police is making plans to bring a new team into the fold.

The air is charged with excitement as the Chief Executive Officer, Chris Oguso, unveils his vision for a women’s team. The dream of starting a new team is alive and well, and the time has come to make it a reality.

For over four decades, the men’s Kenya Police side had been languishing in the lower tiers of Kenyan football, but Oguso’s leadership has brought them back to the top-flight league. Now, with the revival of the men’s team, he believes it’s time to create a new opportunity for women to showcase their talents.

“The dream to have a Women’s team is still alive bearing in mind that it’s a CAF requirement to have one. Moreover, as a service, we have both men and women whose representation should be also identified by having a ladies’ team,” Oguso said as quoted by Daily Nation.

However, there are challenges that need to be addressed before the team can take the field. The primary obstacle is securing the necessary budget, as the club relies on sponsors and well-wishers to fund their operations.

“Hopefully, next season we shall have the team formed. What’s holding us back is the budget since we depend on our sponsors Betika, Air 748 services and well-wishers,” Oguso, a Superintendent of Police currently assigned to the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, added.

Oguso is passionate about the project and is not shy about seeking help from within the organization.

He is reaching out to the Inspector General of Police and Deputy Inspector General Kenya Police, requesting their support to recruit women players into the National Police Service.

This would not only boost morale but also help mitigate the issue of unemployment among players.

“We will also put a humble request to our distinguished Inspector General of Police and Deputy Inspector General Kenya Police to allow the ladies who will be members of the team recruited into the National Police Service. This will highly motivate the players and at the same time mitigate the issue of unemployment among our players.”
