End of an Era: Aussems to part ways with Leopards after three-year stint

AFC Leopards head coach Patrick Aussems is reportedly set to leave the den at the end of his contract, which expires at the end of the 2022/2023 season.

The Belgian tactician, who has been with the team for three years, is said to be considering various offers from African-based clubs.

This news comes despite the fact that AFC Leopards have expressed their determination to keep coach Aussems.

Sources close to the coach have indicated that he is not keen on extending his contract with the Kenyan Premier League outfit.

“I don’t think Aussems will extend his contract. Various clubs are eyeing after him and he may leave Ingwe after our last match of the season,” a source said.

However, club chairman Dan Shikanda has stated that they cannot afford to let go of the 58-year-old Belgian coach, who has been instrumental in stabilizing the team since he took over.

According to Shikanda, Aussems has made a big difference to the team since he joined, and without him, they would probably have been relegated.

“It is true that his contract runs out at the end of this season and before then we intend to hold talks with him to renew. He has made a big difference since we signed him and we cannot let him,” he said.

The club chairman credits the coach for his resilience during a difficult period when they lost 17 players due to FIFA’s transfer ban.

Despite this setback, the team managed to finish in the top ten of the Kenyan Premier League, a feat that would have been impossible without the Belgian coach.

Shikanda is confident that the team can do even better with Aussems next season, now that they have been allowed to sign players.

The chairman intends to hold talks with the coach before the end of the current season to discuss the possibility of renewing his contract.

However, it remains to be seen whether Aussems will agree to stay with the team or move on to another club.
