KCB volleyball ladies see Off KDF in League Encounter

Kenya Volleyball giants KCB saw off Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) 3-0 in a pulsating Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) league match at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Thursday afternoon.

The Bankers, who are fresh from participating in the African Club Championship displayed sheer dominance, sweeping their opponents by sets of 25-9, 25-16, and 25-18 to seal their victory ahead of tougher weekend fixtures.

“We started the competition on a high and I am happy with the win that will go a long way in instilling the much-needed confidence in the squad as we approach tougher opponents in the matches to come. We aim to bag the local title and I believe we can do it,” noted head coach Japheth Munala.

Munala handed youngster Deborah Jesang an opportunity to play after displaying a good show during the continental competition. She was instrumental in today’s match with her attacks alongside opposite attacker Juliana Namutira.

Veteran Malkia Striker’s captain Mercy Moim was left on the bench as Mariana Musa, Lincy Jeruto, Edith Wisa, Esther Mutinda, Juliana Namutira, Deborah Jesang, and Belinda Barasa started for Munala’s side.

“We know that as the league playoffs approaches, the competition is bound to get tough. I am urging my teammates not to rest on their laurels because we want to reclaim our title for our fans. All eyes are looking at us and how we will perform this season after the club championship. We intend to position ourselves as the number one team in Kenya and beyond,” reckoned Captain Edith Wisa.

KCB will resume action on Saturday against arch-rivals Kenya Prisons at the Kasarani Indoor Gymnasium.
