June Onguko: Kenyan Woman Who Rose From Selling Sukuma Wiki to Owning Real Estate Company in the US

June Onguko Matindu is a trailblazer whose entrepreneurial achievements have inspired many people in Kenya and around the world.

Her route to achievement began in Western Kenya, where she grew up in a poor environment.

Onguko started various small-scale businesses while she was young, such as selling sukuma wiki and charcoal wholesale.

She also shown her entrepreneurial drive at school by selling jaggery (known locally as sukari nguru) to her elementary school classmates.

Onguko attended Lugulu Girls High School in Webuye, Bungoma County, after finishing primary school in 1992. She graduated in 1996.

She moved to the United States in 1998 to further her education after performing well on high school exams.

Onguko studied Business Management at Keller Graduate School of Management from 2011 to 2013, following which she ventured into the field of entrepreneurship.

She has risen to prominence in the corporate sector since graduating from school.

Today, she is the proud founder and CEO of June Properties Limited, a real estate company situated in Texas, USA that aims to give Americans with their dream homes.

“Our legacy is built on a foundation of professionalism, market knowledge, and an unwavering commitment to client service. We provide a comprehensive range of real estate services, from buying and selling to investment consulting, tailored to meet the unique needs of each client,” she said.

Onguko claimed that she started the business to provide a second source of income for the family.

After graduating from college, she worked in the corporate world but yearned for more.

She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and a Master’s Degree in the same discipline.

Her company expanded with a small team of employees until her husband joined to steer it ahead with his financial and managerial skills.

The agency sells approximately four homes per month. It enables locals to sell, buy, rent, or lease homes.

“Real estate in Houston has gone up in the past few years. When I started the median house was selling for about Ksh 22 million – Ksh 29.3 million right now we are at around Ksh 66 million – Ksh 73.4 million,” he remarked.
