Heartbreaking tragedy as first class honour JKUAT student kills himself after failing to secure job

In a heartbreaking incident, a 26-year-old ICT graduate, Michael Kibet, has taken his own life in Chepsangor, Nandi County.

The young graduate, who attained First Class honors from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in 2021, had been struggling to find employment since completing his studies.

Kibet had high hopes of securing a job immediately after graduating, especially considering his outstanding academic achievements.

However, after two years of unsuccessful job hunting, he fell into a state of depression.

Living with his mother, a retired nurse and single mother who had been solely responsible for the education of her children following the death of her husband, Kibet’s frustrations continued to mount.

Tragically, he hanged himself outside his brother’s house, succumbing to the overwhelming despair he felt.
