Gor Mahia shift training base to state-of-the-art facility out of for 23/24 FKFPL season

20-time FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia will use the M-pesa Foundation Academy as their training base for the 2023/2024 FKF Premier League season, Pulse Sports Kenya can confirm.

K’ogalo had been alternating between using the Kasarani Annex and the Kangemi based Hope Centre in Nairobi last season, which left the side lacking a consistent home to train at.

Speaking following their FKF Charity Shield win over Kakamega Homeboyz at the weekend, head coach Johnathan McKinstry said that the club’s “strong working relationship” with the facility’s management has put them in a strong position to have “first refusal” using the facilities.

“We are really pleased that we have forged a very good relationship with the MPESA foundation academy. We have first refusal. We are there every day,” McKinstry told Pulse Sports.

“The facilities there are top class. Floodlit pitch, and also their grass pitches (are top notch). They are about to open new grass pitches as well which will take it up to another level.”

McKinstry has hailed the facility, saying his boys will practically be exposed to European structures by using the base.

“ It is really like being in a European training ground what they are doing in Thika. We have come with an agreement with them for this season.

“It is private and a good base for us where the players are able to focus. A good quality  surface helps take your game to another level. We are pleased.

“That took a lot of work. Our team manager Victor Onyaro was working hard on it. The club, obviously, is not cheap. You need to spend some money.

“For you to be successful, thee are the kind of things you need to be exposed to.”

Gor are set to take part in three more friendly matches before kicking off their FKFPL campaign against Sofapaka on August 26.
