A female teacher from the Democratic Republic of Congo has shared in detail the reasons that led her to accept the proposal of a boy she taught in secondary school and marry him despite their significant age difference.
According to Jeannette, she agreed to marry Hassan Mamba Remy, her former student in secondary school, and stated that she has no regrets about the decision, which left the community astonished.
“Yes, what you heard is true, I was a teacher and my husband was my student. Now we have been married for 5 years,” Jeannette said.
On his part, Remy narrated how he gained the courage to propose to his teacher.
He said, “We have been married for 5 years and blessed with two children. My wife was my teacher. She used to come home to help me with extra lessons, which means we spent a lot of time together. And slowly, I found myself falling in love with her, and in class, I didn’t pay attention to the lessons because I was thinking about her all the time.”
Despite his teacher leaving him with a 12-year gap, Remy did not lose hope or care about how the community would perceive him.
“In the final year when exams were approaching, I decided to express my feelings to her, I told her how much I loved her and how I couldn’t tell her because of the age difference. She didn’t say no, she asked me to give her time to think,” he said.
On her part, Jeannette said that the confession of her student’s love was a surprise of its kind.
She couldn’t believe her ears that her student had a hidden love for her.
“I saw in the classroom that he wasn’t concentrating on his studies. At first, I thought he was joking, even I responded to him rudely that he was disrespecting me. But you know, people’s destinies are unpredictable, often those we ignore turn out to be significant to us. After insisting on his intentions towards me, something changed within me, I found myself loving him and wanting to see him all the time,” the teacher narrated.
Even after falling in love, many obstacles arose from both sides, with Remy’s relatives urging him to end the relationship because they saw the teacher as being his mother’s age.
But their love did not die, and 5 years later, they are proud of their family and their two children.
