Fans Upset as Mr Ibu’s Adopted Daughter Takes Over His TikTok Account

Just hours after the passing of Nollywood actor John Okafor, known as Mr Ibu on March 2, 2024, his adopted daughter Jasmine made a significant alteration to his TikTok account, @realmribu, which boasted over 1 million followers.

She rebranded it as @LadyJasminec_live, shedding Mr Ibu’s identity in favor of her own.

Additionally, most of Mr Ibu’s videos were removed, leaving only a handful featuring Jasmine herself.

This move has stirred strong reactions from fans who feel it disrespects Mr Ibu’s legacy.

To them, social media platforms should serve as a memorial to his illustrious career and larger-than-life persona, rather than being repurposed for personal endeavors.

“Mr Ibu’s cause of death is a CARDIAC AREEST ?which is consistent with his multiple ailments. However why did his adopted daughter Jasmine changed all his handles to her name on IG and TikTok? They should have MEMORIALIZED it.” Dr Olukemi Olunloyo expressed her concern on X.

Mr Ibu’s death was confirmed by Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, attributing it to a cardiac arrest.

However, prior to his passing, Mr Ibu had battled numerous health issues, including the amputation of his leg due to blood clotting.

“I announce with deep sense of grief that Ibu didn’t make it. Mr Ibu suffered a cardiac arrest according to his manager of 24 years,” Rollas announced.

In December 2023, Mr Ibu’s family had shared details about his health struggles, including an amputation due to blood clotting in his leg and other health issues.

“Daddy’s cause of sickness is also not diabetes but he’s had constant clotting of the blood in his leg (diseased blood vessels) and other health challenges posing risk to his life, therefore the need for the amputation,” the family explained.
