Fresh details have emerged regarding the mysterious incident where a woman abandoned an unknown person dying inside a hired taxi on July 31, 2023.

Nairobi Regional Commander Adamson Bungei, on Wednesday, August 2, confirmed that the woman was en route to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Syokimau when she abruptly embarked mid-journey, leaving John Doe, behind. John Doe is a name used to refer to someone unknown or anonymous.

According to the police boss, the police positively identified the lady after she left behind two mobile phones, her bag and other personal belongings in the car.

The circumstances surrounding this mysterious event prompted Bungei to raise critical questions. Among them was why the woman appeared to be in a hurry while alighting from the cab.

The police boss noted that the phones were submitted to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for further forensic analysis. Detectives will exploit the data from the phones to track the suspect, who is still at large.

According to Bungei, preliminary examinations from the evidence gathered indicated that the deceased was poisoned after inhaling toxic substances.

Police suspect that the duo was in a rocky relationship, providing a motive for the killer to commit the heinous act.

He, however, assured the police officers would expedite investigations to uncover the events that led to the deceased’s demise and the main cause of John Doe’s death.

One of the leads detectives are following is in a statement recorded by the taxi driver, who claimed that he was surprised after the woman alighted from the trip before they arrived at her intended destination.

Puzzled by the incident, the driver attempted to resuscitate the man but was unsuccessful. He thus alerted police officers, who rushed to the scene and seized a bottle of soda, chips and other belongings.

They also screened the car for fingerprints. However, it was yet to be clear whether the police would conduct DNA tests or analyse surveillance footage in the vicinity.

Nonetheless, upon further scrutiny, the detectives were unable to find identification documents; hence it proved difficult to establish John Doe’s identity. His body was rushed to the City Mortuary pending an autopsy.
