Crowding In Clubs Is Danger Zone, As Government Consideres Lifting Curfew

Businesses have been warned against resuming normal operations after clips emerged on social media showing people crowding in entertainment spots.

According to Health CAS Rashid Aman, Kenyans are behaving as if social distancing measures have been relaxed.

“I am sure that you have seen some video clips on social media showing people crowding in such places throwing all caution to the wind. This is flirting with danger. It creates the perfect environment for infections. We must not allow ourselves to quickly recede to the old way of doing things,” he said on Wednesday.

The National Emergency Response Committee (NERC) put 1824 Club on notice after revelers were spotted thronging the establishment during the Madaraka Day weekend.

The CAS reiterated that the only measure that has been relaxed is the operation of eateries as long as they adhere to the MOH guidelines.

No one should be surprised why we have cases rising in Langata. Our young people have decided not to follow the Government guidelines. And obviously a greedy Kenyan who does not care whether people contract the disease or not.@DCI_Kenya @InteriorKE @PoliceKE @StateHouseKenya

He further stated that the 7 pm-5 am curfew is still in force as is the ban on large gatherings.

Dr. Aman also criticized a section of Kenyans who have stopped wearing masks properly particularly those wearing them on the chin.

“They are like chin guards…we also notice people who wear the mask and only cover the mouth. This is unacceptable!” he said.

The Health CAS said everyone must wear a mask to protect themselves and their loved ones from contracting the COVID-19 disease.

“The only measure that has been relaxed is the measure that allowed operation of restaurants and eateries based on strict adherence to the social and physical distancing measures…” – Dr. Rashid Aman, Health CAS
