Kenya has recorded 271 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours as the country’s total caseload rose to 40,178.
Speaking in Kitale on Thursday, October 8, Health CAS Rashid Aman announced that 5,034 samples had been tested over the period bringing the total number of samples tested so far to 574,712.
All of the positive cases are Kenyans apart from 29 who are foreigners.
177 are male and 94 are female, while the youngest case involves a one-month-old child, and the oldest being 83 years.
At the same time, 51 patients were discharged; 22 from the home-based care programs and 29 from hospitals around the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 31,710.
Regrettably, three patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 751.
The CAS also noted that the world was marking the World Sight Day and that the ministry had the mandate of meeting eyesight needs.
He added that an estimated 7.5 million people have eyesight problems in the country straining resources.
He stated that lack of awareness was among some of the challenges faced by the country in meeting the demand.
“Ministry of Health is in the middle of developing a plan for eye health,” he stated.
He also addressed the Malaba border issue explaining, “there is an issue at the Busia – Malaba border and not just in testing but also those heading towards the border without COVID-19 certificates but it is an issue being looked into by the Government, we will soon discuss way forward.”
He also noted that in the past two weeks, the country record unusual trends with low-case counties increasing caseload. Trans Nzoia alone recorded 67 cases in the past week alone.
This is a spike from the less than 5% positivity case the country had recorded before that.
