Health CAS Rashid Aman on Monday, May 11, announced that 28 people had tested positive for Covid-19 in the preceding 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases within the country to 700

Aman stated that 841 patients had been tested over that period.

It was also disclosed that 12 patients were discharged bringing the total recoveries to 251 while one patient losing his life in Nairobi bringing the total Covid-19-related deaths to 33.

The CAS appealed to Kenyans to be each other’s keeper and report individuals once they spotted symptoms related to the Covid-19 virus.

“We want to encourage Kenyans not to fear to go to health facilities to seek the care that you need even when you do not have the Covid-19 virus.

“We are encouraging Kenyans to come out in their numbers and be tested,” he urged.

He also pointed out that cases were on the rise along Kenyan borders mentioning the Wajir border with Somalia as the most affected. He warned the communities along the border to be vigilant stating, “we need to stop the importation from other areas.”

Addressing the issue of purported cures, the CAS warned that the medicine, including traditional herbs, had no scientific backing and encouraged Kenyans to keep off while calling on the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) to investigate the effectiveness of remedies being suggested.

In an effort to curb the spread of misinformation in the country, the Ministry of Health unveiled a Whatsapp bot 0110719719 “with an embedded simple diagnostic tool that provides information on the pandemic.”

The Ministry of Health Acting Director-General Patrick Amoth, during the presser, noted that the country, for the first time, recorded the death of a person aged between 30 – 39 years old.

“What I wanted to point out was not only deaths at the house level but deaths at the facility level. In the last 48 hours, for the first time, we had a  person aged between 30 to 39 years old dying, a 33-year-old gentleman.

“Despite this category having the highest number of asymptomatic cases, we have never had a person die before,” stated Amoth.

As the cases hit the 700 mark, 19 counties out of the 47 had registered at least one Covid-19 case.
