Covid-19 Update: 246 New Cases, 217 Discharged, 6 Succumbed- Total no of Cases 32,364

Kenya has recorded 246 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of cases in Kenya to 32,364.

A statement released by the Ministry of Health on Monday, August 23, indicated that 4,179 samples had been tested over the same period bringing total samples tested so far to 421,983

Of the 246 cases tested, 157 are male and 89 are female while the youngest case is a one-year-old infant and the oldest is aged 87 years

At the same time, 217 patients have been discharged from hospital bringing the total recoveries to 18,670.

Regrettably, six patients who succumbed to the disease bring the total death toll to 548.

Nairobi led the pack with 78 cases followed by Kajiado 24, Kiambu 22, Nakuru 20, Busia 17, Trans Nzoia 17, Machakos 16, Kirinyaga 12, Kisii 11, Kisumu 8, Mombasa 6, Embu 3, Garissa 2 and Nyeri 2.

Nyamira, Kakamega, Isiolo, Kitui, Kericho, Murang’a, Kilifi and Tharaka Nithi recorded one case each.

In terms of Sub-County distribution, the 78 cases in Nairobi were in, Starehe (17), Dagoretti North (10), Langata (7), Embakasi East (5), Westlands (5), Embakasi Central (4), Kasarani (4) and Kibra (4).

Other areas included Dagoretti South (3), Embakasi West (3), Makadara (3), Mathare (3), Ruaraka (3), Embakasi South (2), Kamukunji (2) Roysambu (2) and Embakasi North (1).

In Kajiado, the 24 cases were in Kajiado East (13), Kajiado North (5), Loitokitok (5) and Kajiado Central (1).

Although the country has been recording reduced cases compared to two weeks ago, the Health Ministry has maintained that the curve is not flattening.

“We must be very cautious when saying that our curve is flattening. Let us take it with a pinch of salt and let us not believe that our curve is flattening.

“The tests are not as many as we were testing a few weeks ago,” explained director public health, Dr Francis Kuria, during a press briefing on Tuesday, August 18.
