Covid-19 Update: 178 New Cases, 258 Discharged, 4 Deaths- Total no of Cases 34,493

Kenya has recorded 178 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of cases in the country to 34,493.

A statement signed by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Wednesday, September 2, revealed that 3,474 samples had been tested over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of tests done to 459,562.

Of the 178 cases, 110 are male and 68 are female. The youngest case is a three-year-old infant and the oldest is aged 77 years.

At the same time, 258 patients have been discharged from the hospital, with 187 reported having been discharged under the home-based care system bringing the total recoveries to 20,449.

Unfortunately, four patients have succumbed to the disease, bringing the total number of fatalities to 581.

The distribution of cases in counties is as follows; Nairobi 48, Kericho 24, Busia 22, Garissa 12, Kiambu 12, Kisii 10, Kisumu 9, Uasin Gishu 8, Nakuru 7, Embu 6, Bomet 4, Mombasa 3, Kitui 2, Machakos 2, Narok 2, Laikipia 1, Meru 1, Siaya 1, Isiolo 1, Makueni 1, Murang’a 1 and Nyeri 1.

In Nairobi, the distribution is as follows; Lang’ata 9, Dagoretti North and Westlands 7 cases each, Starehe 5, Embakasi East 4, Makadara 3, Embakasi Central, Embakasi West, Kasarani, Roysambu and Ruaraka 2 cases each, while Dagoretti South, Embakasi North and Kamukunji 1 case each.

While appearing before the parliament committee on Wednesday, CS Kagwe warned that the country was not out of the woods yet in flattening the covid-19 curve.

“It is still continuing and we have no way of telling whether it is going to do what it did to Germany, where it went down, they opened up and suddenly, the deaths have started going up again,” Kagwe stated.

The Ministry has persistently asked Kenyans to wash hands regularly, wear masks and maintain social distancing, as ways to combat the spread of Covid-19.
