Vihiga Queens, a five-time champion of the Kenya Women’s Premier League, has announced their intention to comply with the directive issued by the Kenya Football Federation (FKF) to participate in an exhibition match against Kibera Soccer Ladies on May 27.

This exhibition match is set to take place prior to Vihiga Queens’ expected title crowning.

FKF left with egg on their face as suprising details emerge on Gaspo’s absence in last match against Vihiga Queens

Originally, Vihiga Queens were scheduled to face Gaspo Women in the season’s final match at the Gems Cambridge on the same day.

However, Gaspo Women stirred controversy when they threatened to give Vihiga Queens a walkover, citing a multitude of reasons through their social media channels.

Surprisingly, Gaspo Women reversed their decision on Friday, expressing their readiness to compete against Vihiga Queens.

“After consultations, we have decided to honour the fixture against Vihiga Queens FC in #FKFWPL match that was scheduled for Saturday, 27th May 2023.

Apologies to all fans, supporters and stakeholders of Gaspo Women Football Club for all the inconveniences caused,” read a confirmation from the club’s social media handles.

Coach Boniface Nyamunyamu of Vihiga Queens responded to Gaspo Women’s change of heart by emphasizing the binding nature of the FKF’s communication.

Nyamunyamu stated that they would adhere to the directive set by the football governing body, as the FKF is responsible for overseeing football operations in the country.

“The federation communicated to us that we will entertain Kibera in an exhibition match after which the team will be awarded the WPL title. We won’t go against what the federation has said since it is the organisation mandated with the running of football in the country,” Nyamunyamu said as quoted by the Star.

“We are all aware that Gaspo had pulled out of the match. I have no further information with regards to their latest decision,” Nyamunyamu added.

The exhibition match against Kibera Soccer Ladies is scheduled to take place at the Police Sacco Stadium, as directed by the FKF.
