FKF left with egg on their face as suprising details emerge on Gaspo’s absence in last match against Vihiga Queens

Fresh details have surfaced regarding Gaspo Women’s decision not to participate in their final match against Vihiga Queens, which was scheduled for Sunday.

Gaspo Women football club took to Facebook to make a surprising announcement, leaving fans and followers intrigued.

In their post, the club provided minimal information, choosing not to elaborate on the specific details surrounding their decision.

”We as GASPO WOMEN football Club, have decided not to participate in #FKFWPL final match against Vihiga Queens FC scheduled on Saturday, 27th May 2023.’This decision has come to be considered due to a number of reasons. We therefore will give out a walkover to the above mentioned opponents.” the club wrote.

Insider sources connected to a local website have shed light on the motivations behind Gaspo Women’s decision.

According to these sources, one of the contributing factors was the club’s realization that they would not receive any prize or recognition despite finishing as runners-up in the Kenya Women Premier League.

“It’s not about being undisciplined, far from it, but we’re asking the federation, what will we get for hosting and honoring the match?” an official of the club anonymously told Mozzart Sport.

“We contacted the federation (FKF) and they told us that we will not receive anything, only the winner (Vihiga Queens) will be awarded on the day,” the source added.

Gaspo Women held the belief that hosting and financing the game, while also finishing as the runner-up, would be both wasteful and unjust, resulting in them receiving no recognition or rewards for their efforts.

Gaspo Women expressed their bewilderment at the lack of appreciation they would receive this time, especially considering that in the previous season when they finished second in the league, they were rewarded with Sh 150,000.

They highlighted the stark contrast as Thika Queens FC, the winners of the league at that time, walked away with Sh 300,000, twice the amount they received.
