Barry Otieno: Leopards officials sent goons to invade the pitch and attack and center referee

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) CEO Barry Otieno has made a shocking claim that officials from AFC Leopards sent goons to invade the pitch during their recent match against Kakamega Homeboyz at the Bukhungu Stadium.

Speaking on Radio 47 during a show hosted by sports guru Fred Arocho, Barry alleged that the Leopards officials’ motive to send goons to invade the pitch was due to a suspected handball outside the box by Homeboyz custodian Farouk Shikhalo.

The incident occurred when the match was abandoned in the 34th minute after Leopards fans stormed the pitch following a contentious decision by the referee not to give a red card to the Homeboyz goalkeeper for handling the ball outside the box.

The chaos erupted when Leopards supporters invaded the pitch, with some of them assaulting the match official, Michael Obuya. This prompted the intervention of the police, who had to use tear gas to restore order.

The aftermath of the incident has seen the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee ruling in favor of Kakamega Homeboyz.

The committee awarded Homeboyz the three points and two goals, while docking Leopards three points. Additionally, Leopards have been fined Sh 500,000 and ordered to play their next four league matches behind closed doors.

The committee has also ordered Leopards to cater for or refund incurred medical costs by center referee Michael Obuya, who was assaulted by a section of Leopards fans during the match.
