Alice Wahome Demoted Without Explanation

Kandara MP Alice Wahome has been ejected from her position at Justice and Legal Affairs Committee with no explanation.

The fiery Lawmaker shared a statement addressed to her by the newly installed Majority Chief Whip Emmanuel Wangwe, informing her that she had been demoted from her role at the committee as the vice-chairperson.

Wangwe went ahead to note that the party was not legally required to furnish her with reason leading to her demotion.

“We are in receipt of your letter dated June 7, 2020, indicating the manner in which you received our notice of intention of the Jubilee Coalition to discharge you from the Justice and Legal Affairs committee and seeking the reason for the intended discharge.

“As you have rightfully noted, the medium through which you received the notice is in keeping with the standing order 2(2), since the notice was also delivered in your office pigeon box at the Continental House,” read the letter in part.

“We note that Standing Order 176(2) does not require the party to give reasons for your intended discharge.

“Jubilee Party looks forward to engaging you in other assignments when the need arises,” continued the statement.

Wahome had earlier written to the party demanding to know the reason for her dismissal after she received a letter informing them of the intended discharge.

“In order for me to respond substantively kindly furnish me with the grounds upon which you intend to cause my discharge from the said committee,” she demanded.

The lawmaker, alongside other politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto, felt targeted in the changes at Jubilee Party that have seen them lose committee seats.

The trouble began when a number of senators reportedly snubbed a Parliamentary meeting at State House convened by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ever since Kipchumba Murkomen lost his Senate Majority seat alongside Susan Kihika and former Deputy Speaker Kithure Kindiki before the bloodbath moved to the National Assembly affecting Moses Kuria.

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale is reportedly next in line with his fate hanging in the balance.
