Renowned artist and one of the biggest entrepreneurial brands in the country, Esther Akoth Kokeyo, popularly known as Akothee, has reminisced about her humble beginnings when she had nothing.
On Thursday, which is commonly known as Throwback Thursday (TBT), a day when many people reflect on their past, Akothee did not hold back.
She shared an old photo of herself and shared a touching story of how she used to admire bras but couldn’t afford to buy even one.
The mother of five opened up about her deep love for bras but her inability to afford one. She revealed that at one point, she decided to borrow one from her mother for a special Sabbath day.
“There was a time I was so fascinated by bras but couldn’t afford one. So, I decided to borrow my mother’s bra for a special Sabbath day,” she said.
Akothee mentioned that during that time, she had lost weight, and her mother’s bra wouldn’t fit her properly. Therefore, she decided to stuff newspapers inside to give the appearance of breasts. However, things didn’t go smoothly during the photoshoot.
“After losing weight, I had to put newspapers inside the bra to mimic the shape of breasts. Unfortunately, the newspapers fell down to my waist during the photoshoot, and I couldn’t adjust them in front of the camera. Nevertheless, I endured and continued with the photoshoot,” Akothee recounted.
Despite going through tough times during that period, Akothee pulled herself together and rose from the dust. She found her success in music and later ventured into entrepreneurship where she founded the tourism company, Akothee Safaris.
