Emerging reports suggest that popular preacher Pius Muiru’s mother might have been killed over a love affair that involved her daughter-in-law and their watchman.

According to a local weekly paper, Nairobian, the 75-year-old Grace Wangari who was found buried in a shallow grave at her home Kigumo might have been killed for knowing too much about the illicit affair.

Apparently, the watchman, Ezekiel Saitambua, 33, has confessed to the affair with 36-year-old Monica Muthoni, and added that he was also seeing another woman at the nearby Mariira town.

After her brutal death, some of Wangari’s items including beddings and gas cylinders were discovered hidden at Saitambua’s other woman’s house in Mariira. The watchman further confessed that he killed and buried Wangari after her daughter-in-law Muthoni promised to pay him Sh. 6,000.

According to reports, this was because the elderly lady did not approve of the illict affair. Muthoni was the wife to the last born son, Waweru, of pastor Muirus mother.

The Nairobian reports that barely 24 hours before she was killed, neighbours had heard a serious altercation between Mrs. Wangari and the watchman.

Strikingly, a week to her death, one of her cows was poisoned and buried at the same grave where she was found dead.

On the fateful day, Waweru found her mum missing and her house was also in a disarray.  Saitambua and Muthoni claimed they didn’t know her whereabouts and her phone was off. This prompted Muiru to reach out to Safaricom for help. The prime suspect had also made an M-Pesa transaction at the nearby Karega shopping centre.

They traced her sim card and located it in the homestead. An ambush was made on the night of March 22. Saitambua was found in possession of the phone and after interrogation, he confessed to the murder and took investigators to the shallow grave where they had buried her, an elderly neighbour said, adding that, “Muthoni  was also picked by police officers after she was implicated in the murder.,” the Nairobian reported.
