Stephen Orot, a 63-year-old retired agricultural officer, visited Maseno School in Kisumu County, Kenya on Monday, February 6th, to mark 50 years since his admission to the institution.

He arrived wearing the school uniform and carrying a metallic box branded as Maseno Old Boy, symbolizing his golden jubilee days.

However, during his visit, he encountered a Form One student named Neville Okoth, who had just started at the school and had no personal items with him.

According to teachers at the school, Okoth reported to the school in the morning with an empty box and had come from the New Hope Orphanage in Nakuru County with a letter from the Director.

Orot was deeply touched by the student’s story and decided to support him throughout his schooling. He mobilized funds with other school administrators to get Okoth personal effects like detergents and tissues.

Orot was impressed by Okoth’s performance, who had posted exemplary results in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2022.

He stated, “Having looked at his performance, I am very sure he is a Grade A material.”

The kind gesture by Orot moved the student and he was seen wiping tears from his eyes as the retired agricultural officer consoled him.
