The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced that the busy Thika Superhighway at Allsopps area will be closed over today and tomorrow.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, KURA said the city-bound expressway will be closed on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September 2019. The closure will facilitate the installation of overpass concrete beams on the ongoing construction of the Outer Ring overpass.
Motorists heading to the Nairobi city centre will be required to use the service lanes as directed by traffic marshals.
“Thika Superhighway at Allsopps (Outer Ring Road Junction) will be closed on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September, 2019 in order to install beams on the ongoing construction of the Outer Ring overpass,” said KURA Acting Director General Silas. M Kinoti.
A similar traffic disruption is also expected next weekend as the remaining section of the outbound expressway will be closed on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd, September 2019.
On both weekends, the closure will commence from 6 am until 6 pm.
“It is advisable for motorists to use alternative routes to reduce congesting the service lanes,” reads the statement.
