The Orange Democratic Movement has welcomed the compensation for Baby Pendo’s family. They see it as an important step in seeking justice, accountability, and national healing.

After receiving a report on the compensation process at Orange Pawaa House, party leaders noted that while no amount of money can replace a lost life, the government’s acknowledgment of responsibility in the victims marks an important step in recognizing past wrongs and addressing the pain felt by affected families.

The party highlighted that justice for victims of state abuses and political violence has been a key part of Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga’s 10-point agenda. This agenda aims to strengthen accountability, promote national unity, and ensure the protection of all Kenyans’ rights.

ODM pointed out that the compensation offered to victims families should not be seen just as a financial arrangement. It symbolizes the state’s accountability and recognizes the pain and loss the family has endured. The party hopes this gesture will aid the broader process of reconciliation and healing while emphasizing that public institutions need to be accountable for their actions.

The party also urged the government and relevant bodies to keep taking steps to deliver justice to victims of past wrongs and to ensure such incidents do not happen again. ODM remarked that accountability, respect for human rights, and following the rule of law are crucial aspects of a democratic society.

Furthermore, ODM encouraged Kenyans to engage in dialogue as the best way to resolve political and social conflicts. The party cautioned against violence and incitement, which threaten national unity, noting that real and lasting solutions can only come from constructive discussions and mutual understanding among all parties involved.

“Compensation can never replace a life lost, nor can it erase the grief experienced by a family. However, accepting responsibility and taking concrete steps toward redress is an important part of the journey toward justice and healing,” the party stated.

ODM reaffirmed its dedication to peaceful engagement, national dialogue, and reforms that address citizens’ concerns while promoting stability and unity. The party called on leaders from all political sides to prioritize peace, practice restraint, and collaborate in building a fairer, more inclusive, and prosperous Kenya.

The report was received at Orange House as part of ongoing efforts to follow up on issues related to justice, accountability, and the implementation of key governance reforms guided by Raila Odinga’s 10-point agenda.
