Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has assured Kenyans that security agencies are fully ready to keep law and order during the June 25 anniversary demonstrations held throughout the country.

Speaking on Thursday, Murkomen stated that the government respects every Kenyan’s right to gather peacefully and express themselves. He noted that police officers have been instructed to provide security for demonstrators and members of the public taking part in memorial activities marking the anniversary of the 2024 anti-government protests.

The CS highlighted that security agencies have put in place enough measures to protect lives, property, and critical infrastructure during the demonstrations. He explained that the increased security presence in Nairobi and other areas aims to ensure public safety and prevent any disruptions that could threaten peace and stability.

However, Murkomen warned against individuals who might seek to misuse the demonstrations for criminal activities like looting, vandalism, and violence. He affirmed that while peaceful protests will be protected, law enforcement officers will act decisively against anyone involved in actions that threaten lives or damage property.

He also urged protesters to behave peacefully and work with security agencies to ensure the events proceed smoothly. According to the CS, the government remains committed to protecting basic freedoms while ensuring public order is upheld.

These remarks come as thousands of Kenyans join in demonstrations and memorial events across the country to honor those who lost their lives during the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests. Security has increased in major towns, with authorities closely monitoring the situation as the country observes the anniversary.
