Two police officers have been killed and seven others are missing following an attack by the Al Shabaab in Lamu County.

Two of the suspected militants, who attempted to raze the Pandanguo Police Post, were also felled in the gun fight on Wednesday morning.

Over 200 Al Shabaab fighters struck at the crack of dawn after holding prayers in a mosque.

The fierce fighting paralysed learning at Kakate, Maleli, Rehema, Furaha, Sendemke and Soroko primary schools.

The fighting that began at 5.30am was still raging by 1.30pm.

Security agents including those from Kenya Defence Forces responded to the scene pushing them into the nearby Boni Forest in a shootout.
Their ground response was however slowed down by fears of mines that the terrorists could have planted on the roads leading to their escape routes. Military choppers were deployed there to assist in locating the militants. They captured events on the ground helping those on foot.
