Paul Nkata has been named the new head coach of Wazito FC, according to Mozzart Sport.

He replaces Jeff Odongo, who has left the team to become an assistant coach at Kakamega Homeboyz FC.

The 62-year-old Nkata is well known in Kenyan football, having previously managed clubs such as Tusker FC, where he guided the team to win the 2016 Kenyan Premier League title, and Muhoroni Youth FC. He will be assisted by Ibrahim Ateng and another assistant, who has yet to be named.

Born and raised in Uganda, Nkata arrived in Kenya in 1986 when he signed for Volcano United as a defensive midfielder.

He has also managed Nairobi City Stars, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Bandari throughout his career. However, his reign at Homeboyz ended abruptly due to match-fixing allegations, causing him to resign and return to his home country.

Wazito FC has had a difficult start to the 2022-23 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) season, having only won two of their 12 fixtures, lost seven, and drawn three.

Nkata has a challenging task ahead of him as he will be expected to steer the team to safety and improve their performance.

With his extensive experience and success in the Kenyan Premier League, Nkata will be a valuable asset to Wazito FC.
