The murder of Kevin Omwenga has unearthed the mysterious life that the young ‘businessman’ lived. As is wont to happen among Kenya’s social media circles, following his death, some Kenyans have come forward with shocking stories that portray the late Omwenga as an upmarket criminal.
In one of the widely circulated messages, Omwenga is said to have been drugging some of his customers whilst he worked as a vehicle salesman. It is also being alleged that he was part of a vehicle theft syndicate. One message that appears to have been sent to a group of NTSA workers reads as follows:
“Dear team. My car went missing from a car yard in Lavington. I came (to) notice yesterday when I made an impromptu visit to the yard called Lystra motor and the salesperson handling called Kevin Omwenga has since gone missing and is not picking my calls or replying to my text. he is mteja. please help me find my car below. Thank you.” The car was a BMW registered as KCG **3P.
Another of the widely circulated messages alleges that Omwenga had bought a certain lady a Mercedes Benz, which he used to trap her into a drug deal. The said lady is now serving an eight-year jail sentence.
Investigators have linked Omwenga’s murder to a fake gold deal gone wrong, in which Omwenga together with his associates Chris Obure and Robert Bodo is reported to have scammed a buyer into the gold deal. Obure and Bodo are currently the main suspects in the murder. Omwenga was shot at close range at his apartment in Kilimani on Friday night. He was rushed to the Nairobi Women’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The bullet that killed him had pierced through his heart and lung, leaving him zero chance of survival.
According to detectives, the trajectory of the bullet head that is suspected to have pierced through Omwenga’s heart and hit the wall before ricocheting to his bed rules out the possibility of an accident.
