Vihiga Queens’ transfer business heats up with two Ugandan stars on the radar

As the Kenya Women’s Premier League enters the business end of the season, defending champions Vihiga Queens are looking to bolster their squad with the signing of two Ugandan players.

The club has already brought in forward Bertha Omita and defender Dorcus Neema, but injuries have forced coach Boniface Nyamunyamu to seek further reinforcements.

‘Omita and Neema will give us options. The club is in advanced negotiations with a striker and midfielder from neighboring Uganda. We might have them on board as early as Friday or weekend latest,” Nyamunyamu told the star.

Vihiga Queens have been hit hard by injuries this season, which have contributed to a drop in form and the loss of their top spot in the league standings.

The coach explained that the decision to recruit mid-season was necessary to avoid a repeat of the team’s first-leg struggles.

“We lacked the bench power in the first half of the season and that disadvantaged us,” he said. “Our levels have dropped because of the many injuries that have left the squad depleted. We don’t want to find ourselves in a similar situation again.”

Vihiga Queens are four-time WPL champions and have been the dominant force in Kenyan women’s football in recent years.

However, this season has been more challenging, with strong performances from Gaspo FC and Thika Queens putting pressure on the defending champions. With just a few games remaining, every point will count, and the team will need to be at their best to retain their title.

The addition of the two Ugandan players will give Vihiga Queens more options going forward, and their experience and skill will be valuable in the team’s quest for success. The club is hopeful that they will be able to make an immediate impact and help the team return to winning ways.

Vihiga Queens will face Kangemi Ladies in their next game, and Nyamunyamu will be looking for a strong performance from his players. With the title race finely balanced, the defending champions cannot afford any more slip-ups, and the coach will be hoping that his new signings can help turn the team’s fortunes around.
