Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League (FKFWPL)  titleholders Vihiga Queens are all set to embark on their journey towards the CAF Women’s Champions League Regional Qualifiers following the recently conducted draws.

The draw for the regional qualifying tournaments, determining the entrant to the second edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League, took place on Wednesday night in Rabat, Morocco, and has paved the way for an exciting showdown between some of East Africa’s finest women’s football teams.

Vihiga Queens find themselves in Group B, where they will be facing strong opponents, including JKT Queens from Tanzania, AS Kigali from Rwanda, and New Generation of Zanzibar.

In Group A, fans can expect thrilling clashes between Ugandan champions Kampala Queens, Ethiopia’s CBE FC, Djibouti’s FAD FC, Burundi’s Buja Queens, and South Sudan’s Yei Joints FC.

The regional tournament is scheduled to take place from August 12 to 30 in Kampala, Uganda, and football enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the kickoff.

Vihiga Queens’ head coach, Boniface Nyamunyamu, expressed his enthusiasm and confidence in his team’s preparations for the upcoming challenge.

“I’m impressed so far by how the girls are determined. I submitted an eight-player list to the management whom I want to be signed as a way of bolstering the squad ahead of the Kampala trip. Our aim is to clinch the title, and I’m sure we shall achieve the dream,” he said as per Citizen.

With the team’s successful qualification for the regional tournament after securing their fourth FKFPL title on May 27, defeating their fierce rivals Gaspo Women, Vihiga Queens are now focused on their goal of claiming victory in the upcoming qualifiers.

AS FAR from Morocco emerged victorious in the previous edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League.

They clinched the 2022 title on home soil by defeating holders Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.

Now, Vihiga Queens are determined to make their mark on the continental stage and aim to bring the coveted title home to Kenya.
