FKF Cup winners Kakamega Homeboyz have stepped up their preparations ahead of their debut CAF Confederation Cup fixture against Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi set to take place at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday from 3:00 PM.

Abana Beingo landed in Nairobi on Thursday, before commencing training ahead of the crunch fixture on Saturday, before holding an open training session at the stadium on Friday morning.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, head coach Patrick Odhiambo warned Al Hilal to write them off at their own peril, insisting his side are not intimidated by the fact they are debutants at the continental stage.

“We believe in ourselves and the most important thing is to win this game first,” Odhiambo said, “We want to win this match because if we do not win it, we will not get to qualify for the group,” he added.

“It is the first time Homeboyz are playing in the competition but a lot of my players have played in the competition before. I am not worried at all. The name may suggest we have not played before but most of my players have the experience required.”

Odhiambo picked a squad of 23 players to travel to Nairobi, and believes the side has the level of manpower required to overcome the test of Al Hilal.

He has urged the fans to turn up in large numbers to support the side.

“ The fans should turn up in large numbers and support us. We have come a long way to get to this point. They should have faith in us because we will need it.”

Meanwhile, captain Moses Mudavadi has said he will treat the match as a normal game, challenging his teammates to make a statement.

“When you get to the next level, you have to make a statement. As an individual, I cannot say I will do anything differently. I will take it as a normal game.”

“We have come a long way. It is a good achievement and a huge step in my career.”
