A court battle is looming between AFC Leopards Coach Patrick Aussems and Tusker Football Club Coach Robert Matano, following accusations of witchcraft leveled against Coach Matano by Coach Aussems.
The feud between the two coaches began when Coach Aussems accused Coach Matano of using witchcraft to win football games instead of relying on strategic tactics.
“Of course l won’t talk about an old coach with no international experience who is more a djudju man than a tactician… one could learn!” Coach Aussems made the accusation in a tweet on April 6, 2023
The tweet was seen as defamatory by Coach Matano, who responded by sending a legal letter through his lawyers, Wambilanga Majani & Associates, demanding an unconditional apology from Coach Aussems within three days, failing which legal proceedings would be initiated to recover compensation for defamation.
However, Coach Aussems did not apologize by the deadline of April 9, 2023. Instead, he took to Twitter to make light of the situation.
“Belgian humor in the second degree is obviously not understood by everyone. Happy Easter ladies and gentlemen!”
in a tweet on April 7, 2023, along with a laugh and celebration emoji. He also tweeted about the principles and values of football, including “enjoyment, respect, commitment, tolerance, solidarity, and fair-play” on April 17, 2023.
Coach Matano’s lawyers have since stated that their client’s esteem has been lowered in the eyes of society due to Coach Aussems’ accusations, resulting in embarrassment, contempt, and odium.
