Twitter drama unfolds as DCI account sparks outrage with latest Arsenal comment

The recent chaos surrounding the removal of the verified badge from legacy accounts on Twitter has caused confusion among Twitter users.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations account, which boasts a following of 1.4 million people, lost its legacy verification badge on April 20th, alongside many other organizations.

However, a recent tweet made by the DCI account has caused some Kenyans on Twitter to question the professionalism of the account. The tweet in question, which was made on Saturday at 12:23 am, read, “Arsenal inawezapea mtu heart attack,” following a 3-3 Premier League match against Southampton.

One Kenyan on Twitter (KOT) replied saying, “This is very unprofessional. Admin use your individual account for such nonsense. Stay professional.”

The DCI account replied to the user, saying, “Football is a profession like any other please upgrade.”

Although certain users criticized the tweet for being unprofessional, others regarded it as a chance to interact with the account.

A particular user even requested the DCI account to follow them, while another user insinuated that the account was a parody.

The removal of verification badges has affected several media organizations, causing confusion and concern among Twitter users. However, Twitter has recently introduced a gold badge as an alternative to traditional brand verification, which costs $1,000 per month.
