Tusker overtakes Gor on the table with convincing win against Wazito

Tusker, the defending champions of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League, have overtaken Gor Mahia at the top of the table with a 2-0 victory over relegation-threatened Wazito.

The win puts Tusker one point ahead of Gor Mahia with both teams having played 25 matches. Tusker and Gor Mahia are set to face each other next month in a potentially crucial match that could determine the winner of the league.

Tusker took the lead in the 12th minute through Eric Otieno, who was unmarked in the box and slotted the ball home from close range.

Lawrence Luvanda extended the lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute with a well-placed shot that left the Wazito goalkeeper stranded.

With nine games remaining in the league, Tusker’s coach Robert Matano is cautious about the team’s chances of retaining the title.

“Every team is tough and you can’t say that since we are top of the table, we have won the league,” he said.

Meanwhile, Wazito’s coach Charles ‘Ode’ Odera is still optimistic about his team’s chances of avoiding relegation. “We have good players, and in the nine games remaining, we shall fight and win more so our home games. The management and players have faith in me, and I believe we can do well,” he said.

In another match, Kenya Police defeated Vihiga Bullets 2-0 at the Bukhungu Stadium. The goals were scored by Duke Abuya and Francis Kahata in the 13th and 38th minutes, respectively.

The win takes Kenya Police’s points tally to 43 from 24 matches, placing them fifth on the league log. Meanwhile, Vihiga Bullets remain at the bottom of the table with eight points from 25 matches.
