Three Kenyan tennis players make it into US National Collegiate division

Three female Kenyan players have been listed in Division 1 universities tennis players in the United States.

Angela Okutoyi, 19, is currently representing the Auburn University in Alabama, Britney Korir, 18, is playing tennis at Binghamton University in New York while Alicia Owegi, 20, plays at Alabama A and M University.

This comes as good news to the three players who this week made it to the list and expect that they will make it big in the tennis world.

Speaking to Nairobi News, Britney said that she was really excited for making it big to the list and promised to make it even bigger.

“I have played tennis from a tender age and I have supportive parents who have always supported my dreams. I recently came to the USA from Australia to further my studies,” she said.

Britney further said she has mentored her younger brother who is also making it big in the tennis games in Australia where our family is based.

“I would ask Kenyan ladies, especially those who love tennis, to continue with their dreams,” she said.

She has also been supporting young ladies in Kenya by issuing them with sanitary towels which they use.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is the highest level of intercollegiate athletic competition in the US.

Universities in this category are well-funded and usually offer a wide variety of sports programmes.

The universities usually attract top athletes from across the globe and even offer sponsorship opportunities internationally.

The competition level in Division 1 is highly competitive, and athletes are known for their exceptional skills and dedication to their sport.
