A deadly gang of thieves have stolen Sh. 50 million from KCB Thika Branch.

The thieves have been reported to have stolen the money after digging a tunnel into the bank.

The bank manager said that they found the money missing when they reported to work on Monday morning.

The money was stored in the bank’s strong room. The bank is situated opposite a police station.

After accessing the strong room, the thieves used oxyacetylene welding technology to generate a flame that drilled holes into the two safes that had the money.

In 2005, a gang dug an 80-metre tunnel, wood panelled and fitted with electric lighting and rudimentary air-conditioning in Brazil and stole £40m which at the time was the world’s biggest robbery.
