The Diamond League final meeting is scheduled for this weekend and every athlete will be anticipating to make a mark and bag the top prize.
The event will take place at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday and Sunday with vigorous track and field action expected.
Kenyans who are already guaranteed spots in the final include Beatrice Chebet, Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Ferdinand Omanyala, Faith Kipyegon, Mary Moraa, and Reynold Cheruiyot, who will be seeking to walk away with the billions set aside.
The athlete who crosses the finish line first will be awarded a trophy and Ksh4,389,000. The second-place finishers will also enjoy a hefty prize money of Ksh1,755,600.
The third and fourth-place finishers will walk away with Ksh1,024,100 and Ksh585,200 respectively while the athletes who finish fifth will be awarded Ksh365,750. Those who finish seventh and eighth will bag Ksh219,450 and Ksh146,300 respectively.
Aside from the Kenyans, other world-class athletes will also descend on the Hayward field to challenge the Kenyan charge.
2000m world record holder Jakob Ingebrigtsen will be in action in either the 1500m or 5000m hoping to continue his hot streak.
The American duo of Noah Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson have also confirmed participation in the event and they will be keen to continue the hot streak. Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo have also confirmed participation.
