Triple World record holder Faith Kipyegon will definitely head to the bank full of smiles after her hard work at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary yielded good fruit.
Kipyegon is the latest double gold medallist, in individual events, after bagging two gold medals, the 1500m gold medal and her latest, the 5000m.
As reported by World Athletics, the first eight to cross the finish line will be awarded hefty prize money. In the case of Kipyegon, she will bag Ksh 10,010,000 for winning the 1500m gold medal and an additional Ksh 10,010,000 for the 5000m gold medal.
Kipyegon will now walk away with Ksh 20,020,000 for her remarkable feat at the global showpiece.
Meanwhile, the second-place finishers at the event will walk away with Ksh 5,005,000 while the third-place finishers will walk away with a whooping Ksh 3,146,000.
The athletes who finished fourth and fifth will receive Ksh 2,288,000 and Ksh 1,573,000 respectively. The sixth, seventh, and eighth athletes will be awarded Ksh 1,001,000, Ksh 858,000, and Ksh 715,000 respectively.
In the relays, World Athletics has set aside Ksh 26,598,000. The top three finishers will be awarded Ksh 11,440,000, Ksh 5,720,000, and Ksh 2,860,000 respectively.
The fourth–, fifth-, and sixth-place finishers will walk away with Ksh 2,288,000, Ksh 1,716,000, and Ksh 1,144,000 respectively. The seventh and eighth-place finishers will walk away with Ksh 858,000 and Ksh 572,000 respectively.
