Stanley Okumbi secures new coaching role shortly after snubbing KPL side

Days after snubbing Football Kenya federation (FKF-PL) side, Mathare united job, former Harambee Stars head coach Stanley Okumbi has been appointed as the head coach of the Kenya U18 boys’ team for the upcoming CECAFA U18 Championship.

Okumbi, who was linked with a job at Mathare United as a technical director, has already commenced scouting for the tournament which will be held in Kenya later in the year.

Okumbi brings with him a wealth of experience, having worked as the head coach of FKF Premier League sides Mathare United, Wazito FC, and Posta Rangers.

This development comes just days after Beldine Odemba was appointed as the new Kenya U18 girls’ coach for the CECAFA U18 Women Championship, which will also be hosted in Kenya from June 24th.

Odemba, who has previously worked as an assistant coach with the national U17 and U20 girls’ teams and has coached Kariobangi Sharks and AFC Leopards in the Kenyan top flight, led Highway Secondary to the final of the East Africa Secondary School Games (FEASSSA) last year.

Trials for the girls’ team have already commenced, and a provisional squad for the upcoming test is expected to be released soon.
