Sofapaka president reveals plans for securing new sponsors before start of season

Sofapaka president Elly Prezda Kalekwa has revealed that the club are in the process of trying to secure potential new sponsors to ease their financial burden.

Last season, Batoto Ba Mungu had to play the full season without a sponsor, and as their nickname suggests, they figuratively had to rely on the grace of God to see the season out.

However, Prezda has revealed that there are plans underway to ensure that they will start the season with a sustainable foundation.

“We have started launching with the team. Already, there are many things that we are trying to handle. We are knocking on the doors of many potential sponsors but in a real sense, we are hoping that there will be a launch, and not just one” Kalekwa said.

“We are going on. We will not reveal until it is signed. However, we are still open to having more sponsors, we are free!”

Sofapaka confirmed the signing of 17 new players for the 2023/2024 season. Having already gone through the legal battles with former players over unpaid wages and salaries, Kalekwa hopes the new deals will help abate such issues in the future.

“It was very difficult especially given battling for survival to stay afloat is not easy. You can see most teams are struggling. It is not easy without a sponsor but I know that this season, things will be different and this will be a new Sofapaka.

Meanwhile, the club will be conducting its training sessions both at the Eastleigh grounds and the Marist grounds in Karen depending on what the technical bench prefers.

“We are training both at Eastleigh and at Marist Grounds). It depends on what the technical bench wants. It depends on the coach’s strategies.

Sofapaka finished last season in 10th place on 42 points, making it the fourth season in a row that they have finished in the mid-table places.
