Shabana turn to seasoned names as they gear for FKF PL return

Shabana FC have opted to go for seasoned players in their bid to make a mark in the FKF Premier League in the 2023–24 season that commences in three weeks’ time.

The Glamour Boys earned promotion to the top tier for the first time in 17 years after topping the National Super League in the recently concluded season, and under coach Sammy Okoth, they will be hoping to not only retain their top-flight status but also leave a mark in Kenya’s premier league next season.

In an earlier interview, the tactician disclosed that he would sign a minimum of ten players, a clear indication that he was not taking chances. He also admitted that they needed to be ready, as the top tier is a tough league.

The club has now opted to go for experienced players in a bid to solidify their squad. Among them is former Kakamega Homeboyz left-back Hillary Wandera, who was recently released by the Mozzart Bet Cup winners. Wandera is a former Ushuru FC, Oserian FC, Nzoia Sugar, Tusker FC, and KCB FC player.

Other players training with the team and expected to sign include the former Bandari trio of striker Johanna Mwita, defender Rodgers Aloro, and goalkeeper Michael Wanyika, who was only released a few days ago. Mwita and Aloro were axed three weeks ago, and the trio will form part of Shabana’s team next season.

Completing the list is former Nzoia Sugar FC defender Prince Ayieko. The central defender, who can also play as a right-back, has previously been in the books of Vihiga United and AFC Leopards as well.

Shabana starts the season with a home match against Murang’a Seal FC.
