Three boda boda operators have been killed in a suspected Al-Shabaab attack at Nyongoro in Witu, Lamu County.
The three died after gunmen opened fire on a bus and a security vehicle heading to Kipini from Malindi.
The attackers shot at the bus belonging to Kipini Raha company on the Garsen-Lamu highway at around 3.30pm, according to witnesses.
The militants shot randomly from the forest before police escorting the vehicle came to the passengers’ rescue.
On July 27, Nelson Marwa warned that all public and private vehicles plying the Lamu-Mombasa route without armed police escort will be impounded and licences withdrawn.
The Coast regional coordinator has been talking tough on security in the county where al Shabaab terrorists have carried out several attacks.
