Salome Chepkemoi experienced high school much like her peers, but she faced an unexpected challenge when she became pregnant during her second year.
Despite her father’s rejection following this event, she persevered and successfully completed her secondary education.
In 2012, Chepkemoi took her KCSE exams and achieved a D grade.
Given her early pregnancy and the subsequent exam results, it seemed as though her future was bleak.
Nevertheless, Chepkemoi picked herself up and entered the workforce, securing a position at a boutique.
At the age of 27, she left her parents’ home after obtaining a job that offered her commission for each customer she assisted.
While employed at the boutique, she acquired valuable business skills that proved beneficial when she decided to open her own establishment.
Subsequently, a friend approached Chepkemoi with an opportunity to take over a business she had been managing, as the friend was relocating overseas.
Chepkemoi invested a sum as goodwill and continued to operate the business, maintaining the rent payments as the previous owner had done.
The venture thrived, allowing her to open a second branch.
Chepkemoi later expanded her endeavors into chicken farming, which enabled her to sell wholesale eggs in Eldoret and the surrounding areas.
She has also purchased a home and owns a vehicle.
